Celebrating Women at the BMO Marathon Expo
Every spring, Vancouver transforms into a hub of energy and excitement as thousands gather for the BMO Vancouver Marathon. From the scenic race routes to the lively Expo, the event is more than a showcase of endurance — it’s a celebration of community, connection, and the incredible stories behind every runner. This year, we were especially inspired by the women who came together to run, cheer, and lift each other up.
The Spirit of the Marathon
The BMO Vancouver Marathon isn’t just one of the city’s biggest races. It’s a celebration of community, perseverance, and the power of sport to bring people together. Every May, thousands of athletes and supporters gather to share in the energy of race weekend. This year at the Expo, we were proud to stand alongside so many passionate athletes, especially the women who continue to inspire by showing up, pushing boundaries, and proving what strength and determination truly look like.
Energy and Connection
The Expo was buzzing with excitement. From first-time 5K runners nervously picking up their bibs to seasoned marathoners swapping strategy tips, every corner held stories of resilience and determination. What stood out most was the number of women connecting with one another, sharing training experiences, offering encouragement, and building each other up. This sense of community is what makes events like the BMO Marathon so special.
Supporting Female Athletes
For us, being at the Expo was about more than just showing up. We wanted to be present as advocates for female athletes, listening to their stories and understanding the challenges they face in sport. Many women spoke about the confidence, discipline, and empowerment they’ve gained through running. Others shared the barriers they’ve had to overcome, whether it’s balancing training with busy schedules, dealing with injuries, or finding the right support systems. These conversations reminded us why representation and community are so important in athletics.
Beyond Finish Times
One of the most powerful parts of marathon culture is that it isn’t defined solely by times and rankings. For so many, it’s about self-belief, the friendships made on the journey, and the shared sense of accomplishment when thousands cross the finish line together. The BMO Marathon reminded us that running is both deeply personal and beautifully collective. Every stride adds to a larger story of perseverance.
Looking Ahead
Leaving the Expo, we felt inspired by the women we met and more motivated than ever to keep supporting them on their athletic journeys. Whether it’s through community events, partnerships, or simply showing up to cheer on race day, our mission is to create space where women in sport feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
